About the role

We’re pleased to invite applications for the position of Senior Technical Officer – Tactical Data Links & Communications, to join our MILSATCOM Tactical Data Links & Communications team.   

Based in WAMA – Henderson (WA) and reporting to the Technical Officers Team Lead, you will provide authoritative technical advice and in-service engineering support across MILSATCOM, Tactical Data Links and Communications systems fitted to naval combat platforms.

Reporting within the Engineering Group, this role acts as the senior communications technical advisor within delegated authority, supporting operational availability, reliability and continuous improvement of combat systems across ANZAC Class and other relevant vessels.

This is a key role working closely with Commonwealth stakeholders, sustainment teams and the wider Technical Support Network to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective combat system outcomes.

As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Act as the senior technical advisor for Combat Systems communications-related issues within delegation (excluding NewGEN MCS).
  • Conduct in-service combat systems engineering activities as required.
  • Identify, assess and manage supportability and technical risk issues, with a focus on optimising cost, reliability and availability.
  • Provide technical advice, liaison and helpdesk support to Commonwealth stakeholders and the ANZAC Class Technical Support Network.
  • Develop and raise technical documentation supporting maintenance, repair and sustainment activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, assistance and training to peers to ensure correct procedures and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of company processes, standards and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, safety, duty of care and quality management systems.
  • Foster a respectful, collaborative team environment and communicate openly with managers and colleagues.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Extensive experience with command and control or weapon systems fitted to warships.
  • Experience maintaining shipborne combat systems.
  • Experience supervising shipboard combat systems maintenance teams.
  • Over 10 years’ demonstrated experience in engineering installation, maintenance and repair within a quality framework (suitable for Level 4 engineering delegation).
  • Experience managing maintenance of relevant shipboard systems within a quality framework.
  • Extensive experience with ANZAC Class ships is mandatory.

Qualification:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electronics, Electrical or Systems Engineering to at least Diploma level, or equivalent on-the-job experience supported by relevant technical training.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
