Software Team Lead

The role

The 9LV Combat Management System (CMS) is currently operational on both the ANZAC and LHD platforms and development is ongoing on a number of other platforms within the Royal Australian Navy and for a range of international customers.

Within this context, the Software Team Lead will be one of several Team Leaders working under the direction of a Senior Team Lead. The Software Team Lead is responsible for the planning and management of the development of their team’s software work packages within the Tactical sub-systems of the 9LV CMS (e.g. routes, patterns, figures, track identification and classification).

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Take the key outputs of the requirements development process and translate those outputs into a compliant CMS design.
  • Lead, coordinate and guide a software development team in the production of 9LV software and associated artefacts.
  • Discuss and agree upon the software scope, design and implementation for 9LV CMS.
  • With support from the Senior Software Team Lead, be responsible for the delivery of software estimates for work packages.
  • With support from the Senior Software Team Lead, be responsible for the delivery and statusing of agreed software development work packages. A work package shall clearly define the scope, budget, acceptance criteria and technical dependencies of the software to be developed.
  • Be responsible for the resolution of 9LV associated System Performance Reports (SPRs) and tickets allocated to the team.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and 9 day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in software engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership of a high performance software team
  • Experience in the development of large software projects
  • Demonstrated understanding of the full software engineering lifecycle of large software development projects
  • Demonstrated software scheduling and planning skills
  • Experience in the application of Agile methods in a software team
  • Experience in the verification and acceptance testing of a software intensive system


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
