Subcontracts Manager

The role

As part of our Business Services group, the Subcontracts Manager will be responsible for the delivery of Subcontract Management in support of Saab Australia’s project and programs, during precontract (bid) and delivery phase.

The incumbent is expected to be an active member of Supply Chain Team and will support the Senior Subcontracts Manager in delivery of the service.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Implement and manage subcontract management processes in relation to project and program subcontract management needs
  • Perform supply chain risk assessments, undertake due diligence tasks, participate in make/buy decision making and provide expert knowledge in support of the capture/bid/project team
  • Engaging with the commercial and legal team to determent applicable flow down requirement for potential subcontracts
  • Assist in assessment and down select of subcontractors during pre- “Win Business” phase utilising relevant Saab process
  • Develop project specific procurement strategies and plans and support with the drafting scope specific subcontracts related RFT suite of documents
  • Manage established subcontracts through to completion and close out, including tasks such as organising and attending periodic stakeholder meetings, reporting, manage scope change and variations to contracts.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and 9 day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Previous experience in a Senior Subcontract Administrator or Management role, establishing, managing and closing out contracts
  • Experience working in Defence (desirable)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or a related discipline (desirable)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ‘end to end’ procurement process and experience in strategic delivery of complex subcontracts
  • Prepare and present slide decks for internal gate reviews as well as at customer reviews
  • Proven commercial acumen with the ability to recognise issues and identify key risk areas


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
