Want to influence the bigger picture? At Saab, you can realise amazing innovations that keep people and societies safe. Together, we can truly make an impact – and your part matters.
Your role
Armed forces are rapidly moving towards data‑driven, multi‑domain operations. To enable this, Saab needs to build solutions that are data centric by design – where data can be shared, discovered and exploited securely across systems, domains and nations.
Guided by emerging reference architectures such as NATO’s Data Centric Reference Architecture for the Alliance (DCRA), the Alliance Data Sharing Ecosystem (ADSE) and the NATO Digital Backbone, we are now looking for a Specialist within the area of Data Centric Architecture.
Your role as a specialist at Business Unit Digital Battlespace Solutions (DBS) will be to act as the link between data‑centric reference architectures, standards and governance models on one side, and Saabs technical solutions, platforms and products on the other.
The overall responsibilities will be to:
- Uphold and share knowledge about data‑centric reference architectures (e.g. NATO DCRA, Digital Backbone Reference Architecture, Zero Trust Reference Architecture)
- Support and advise architectural work regarding data‑centric design (e.g. data mesh, data spaces, data‑as‑a‑product, federated data catalogues)
- Be a natural hub for data‑centric architecture and interoperability networks, both internally and in relevant international forums
- Contribute to the definition of Saab‑wide data architecture principles, patterns and building blocks (e.g. data domains, semantic models, APIs, catalogues, governance services)
- Support programmes and product teams in applying data‑centric principles in concrete solution architectures and roadmaps
- Write documentation and guidelines as well as participate in technical discussions and reviews regarding solutions
The main purpose of the Surveillance Specialist Program is to strengthen technical leadership and to ensure the right competence for our future business. The role of the Specialist is to drive the development within a certain technical area, creating interest and helping to push technical boundaries and Saab’s position as innovation leader. This is performed by monitoring technical progress and creating Saab awareness to help grasp opportunities and reduce risks.
External and international relations are essential to develop competence and identify opportunities. This includes relations with academia, partners as well as customers and international standardisation bodies.
Although a specialist belongs to a designated line organization, it is important to note that being a specialist means working for Saab as a whole. After the recruitment process, specialists are appointed for a period of two to three years and at 15 to 20% equivalent of a full-time position.
The position is allocated to our operations in Solna.
Your profile
We are looking for an experienced System Architect, Enterprise/Information Architect, Senior System Engineer or Technical/Product Manager with a strong interest in data‑centric design. You have the ability to both see the big picture and understand the details where necessary.

We seek you with knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Design and implementation of data‑intensive systems or platforms (e.g. C2, ISR, mission systems, analytics/AI platforms)
- Data‑centric architectural patterns, such as data mesh, data spaces, data‑as‑a‑product, federated data catalogues
- Data governance, master and reference data management, data quality frameworks and data‑centric security/Zero Trust
- Semantic modelling and standardisation (e.g. vocabularies, ontologies, MIM, CXCSRM NATO Core Data Framework, metadata standards such as ADatP‑4774/4778/5636)
- API‑driven architectures and model‑driven approaches (MDA) for interoperability‑by‑design
- Experience from applying or aligning to reference architectures in a defence or critical‑infrastructure context (e.g. NATO DCRA, Digital Backbone RA, Zero Trust RA, FMN Spiral Specifications)
Meriting experience:
- Architecture work in multinational or joint programmes where data sharing and sovereignty are key concerns
- Work with cloud, hybrid and edge‑based data platforms and storage architectures
- Experience from data analytics/AI/ML solutions and their data requirements
