Your role
Background: As the amount of data from sensors grows exponentially, the traditional "cloud-centric" AI model is being challenged. Moreover, instant response to sensor data is typically not supported by the model. The intelligence must move closer to the data. It is therefore crucial to understand how to deploy, optimize, and manage AI that is embedded in devices at the edge.
The specialist role within Embedded AI is responsible for exploring, evaluating, and driving the adoption of AI on resource-constrained embedded and edge computing platforms. Key responsibilities include assessing the feasibility of edge AI, identifying and validating use cases, and establishing proof of concepts that demonstrate business and technical value.
The role spans the full edge AI lifecycle, from training proprietary machine learning models on GPU-based infrastructure to optimizing, deploying, and executing them on low-power edge processors, enabling real-time, deterministic intelligence at the point of data collection.
The specialist is expected to evaluate emerging technologies, both HW and SW, and collaborate closely with Common Technology and the technical expert roles within High Speed Edge Computing and Sensor System Software Architecture to identify opportunities and accelerate the adoption of edge AI solutions.

The main purpose with the Specialist role is to act as a technical leader within the designated technical area. That means, to drive the development of the technical area, anticipating future trends and directions, understanding risks and opportunities and most important of all - drive and advocate for necessary change.
External and international relations are essential parts to gather insights, co-create and increase knowledge. This includes relations with academia, partners as well as customers.
While assigned to a specific line organization, Specialists work for the benefit of Saab as a whole. Appointments are made for a three-year term (2026-2028), with at least 20% of your time dedicated to specialist activities.
As part of the Specialist program, you will meet and interact with other specialists at Saab. Every year there is an inspirational Surveillance Specialist Day, and you will also have the opportunity to engage in mentorship programs and courses to enhance your skills and knowledge. You will develop and maintain a written specialist plan, outlining your vision and strategy for your technical area, in dialogue with your manager and other stakeholders. You regularly communicate your plan and vision, to inspire, share insights and push boundaries.
Your profile
The role is of strategic importance and requires expertise in Embedded AI, Machine Learning, and Embedded Systems, together with 3-5 years of relevant experience across several of the following areas:
Edge AI and machine learning model development
Identification, evaluation, and validation of edge AI use cases
GPU-accelerated model training using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
Model optimization and compression techniques, including quantization and pruning
Deployment of AI models on relevant compute
Embedded systems and RTOS-based software development
Hardware platform evaluation and selection for edge AI applications
Programming in C/C++ and Python
Sensor integration, signal processing, and data acquisition
Evaluation of emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and hardware platforms
