Sustainment Engineering Manager

The role

As part of our Engineering and Sustainment Services group, the Sustainment Engineering Manager will manage the delivery of engineering outcomes to ensure availability of Combat Systems in accordance with our contracted requirements. Working collaboratively with our Systems Delivery Group Combat Systems Integration team, MIWS, relevant CLCM, RMP and DSC contractors, they will ensure efficient delivery of engineering change, combat system in service engineering support, and short facility in service support.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide leadership to a multi-disciplined team of engineers, technical officers and logistics resources.
  • Understand and develop requirements for maintaining operational availability and efficiency of the platform combat systems.
  • Provide engineering sustainment support for installed combat systems including managing system help desks, coordinating planned and unplanned maintenance, and addressing obsolescence issues.
  • Manage investigations, reports and develop solutions for technical issues in support of the RAN Combat System requirements.
  • Provide Combat engineering advice to all stakeholders
  • Implement and develop systems, policies, frameworks and processes to enable the Combat Systems Support team to deliver exceptional performance while meeting compliance obligations
  • Deliver financial outcomes in line with agreed performance measures.
  • Manage available budget and reporting requirements.
  • Implement and develop systems, policies, frameworks and processes to enable the Combat Systems Support team to deliver.
  • Seek to continually improve the overall cost of ownership and provide value for money outcomes for the customer.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Relevant professional certifications in systems engineering or related fields such as Engineers Australia CPEng or INCOSE ASEP, CSEP or ESEP (desirable).
  • 12+ years of experience in engineering, with significant experience in military systems or related defence technologies.
  • 5+ years in a leadership or management role of engineering team(s), with a focus on strategic and technical management
  • Combat Management Systems including weapons and fire control systems, EMI/EMC analysis, RADHAZ, emission security.
  • Program / Project management experience within an engineering organisation.
  • An ability to attain an Engineering Level 3 SQEP Delegation.
  • Application of Asset Management practices.
  • Familiarity with the RAN Technical Support Network.
  • Ability to work under pressure when required but able to balance performance and wellbeing.
