About the role
Join a high-performing engineering team delivering critical capabilities under the Enterprise Partnering Agreement (EPA). As a Systems Security Engineer (SSE), you will act as the Cyber Security subject matter expert across multiple defence projects, providing design assurance, technical guidance, and security engineering leadership.
Reporting to senior engineering leadership, you will be responsible for implementing the System Security Program Plan across assigned projects and ensuring security is embedded throughout the entire systems lifecycle.
In this pivotal role, you will contribute to the development, integration, and sustainment of complex software-intensive systems—helping ensure they meet stringent security, safety, and performance requirements.

Your Role:
You will work closely with Software, Hardware, Systems and Specialty Engineering teams to deliver secure, compliant, and high-quality solutions.
Key responsibilities:
System Security & Cyber Engineering
- Develop and maintain Assessment & Authorisation (A&A) documentation in accordance with Defence security processes.
- Conduct threat and risk assessments; recommend mitigation strategies and treatment controls.
- Participate in and support security working groups with internal and external stakeholders.
- Review and provide input into system tests, analysis, and verification of security controls.
- Perform vulnerability identification, assessment, and remediation guidance.
- Provide system hardening advice and security configuration recommendations.
- Support system design activities to ensure appropriate security controls are incorporated.
Systems Engineering Delivery
- Gather and analyse system requirements and develop traceability documentation.
- Contribute to system architecture development and design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).
- Assist in integrating hardware and software into cohesive systems.
- Develop and execute verification and validation test plans.
- Perform troubleshooting, system-level defect analysis and issue resolution.
- Conduct subsystem integration and support system rollouts.
- Prepare technical documentation, validation reports, and support training delivery.
- Participate in system demonstrations, working groups, and stakeholder engagements.
Project & Compliance Support
- Maintain and manage engineering baselines and support change control activities.
- Coordinate with Project Engineering to resolve scope, risks, and technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, company policies, and the Saab Code of Conduct.
- Uphold health, safety, and wellbeing obligations and foster a safe working culture.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- Extensive engineering experience, with exposure to software-intensive or complex systems.
- Cyber Security Engineering experience in software development, networks, or embedded systems (Defence environment highly desirable).
- Understanding of Defence A&A processes and frameworks.
- Knowledge of PSPF, DSPF, ISM and contemporary security engineering standards.
- Strong systems engineering capability (requirements, architecture, integration, V&V).
- Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler) and analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualification:
- Tertiary qualifications in systems/software engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline.
- Working toward or holding recognised cyber certifications (CISSP, CISM, OSCP, GIAC, etc.).
Desirable:
- Experience working with complex military or defence systems.
- Familiarity with ASDEFCON environments and associated system engineering expectations.
- Experience with system integration, validation, and troubleshooting in Defence programs
