SYSTEMS ENGINEER

The role

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the development, integration, and maintenance of systems along with supporting senior engineers in designing and implementing system solutions while ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and project requirements. The role involves assisting in the creation of technical documentation and reports, participating in system testing, troubleshooting, and validation processes for software intensive systems and staying updated with industry trends and advancements in systems technology.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Manage the development and maintenance of the security Assessment and Authorisation (A&A) documentation.
  • Conduct threat and risk assessments, identify and recommend treatment controls and mitigation strategies
  • Develop requirements documentation and traceability matrices.
  • Conduct and participate in the security working groups at Product and/or Project levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide input to and review the development of system tests and analysis that verify system security controls.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9 days will be considered for this role after probation and discussion with the manager.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Up to 6 years’ experience in the fields of Systems Engineering (i.e. Requirements Management, System Architecture, Systems Integration, and/or Verification and Validation). Experience in complex systems is desirable.
  • Cyber Security Engineering experience with software development, computer networks and embedded software systems (ideally within a defense environment).
  • Knowledge and experience related to Defense cyber security Assessment & Authorization (A&A) processes.
  • Knowledge and experience about contemporary security engineering process, standards, principles and best practice, particularly the PSPF, DSPF and ISM.
  • Familiarity with complex systems (e.g. military systems) or related defense technologies is desirable.
  • Familiarity of System Engineering in an ASDEFCON context is desirable
  • Tertiary qualifications in systems/software engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline.
  • Pursuing or achieved relevant cyber security certification(s) (e.g. CISSP, CISM, OSCP, GIAC, etc).
  • Ability to work with other stakeholders (e.g. Systems Engineers, Project Managers & Engineers if other internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and willing to learn


As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably NV1/NV2 level. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
