Systems Engineer (Product Owner)
The role
As part of our Naval Combat Systems group, the Systems Engineer (Product Owner) is an integral part of our team that is responsible for developing a clear vision and roadmap for our products and capabilities. The Systems Engineer (Product Owner) will liaise between various stakeholders and the scrum team to gather, analyse, and document business, project and product requirements. They will also support their team in the design of software solutions while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Product/Capability Roadmap: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, leadership, and global 9LV product group to define and prioritize the product/capability roadmap for the Scrum teams. Ensure alignment between projects objectives and engineering goals.
- Requirements Management: Gather and prioritize product requirements from stakeholders, projects, and internal teams. Own and prioritise the product backlog.
- Planning: Support the Software Team Lead and Scrum Team to plan each sprint, selecting items from the backlog that will be worked on during that sprint.
- Design: Establish clear, actionable design. Work closely with the Scrum team to ensure requirements are well understood and implementable to maximise the product value based on the allocated budget.
- Test: Support the definition of clear and specific acceptance criteria for each feature, and how the feature should be considered ‘done’.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
- Experience: Three or more year of experience in the field of Systems Engineering in Software intensive systems. Across the full engineering lifecycle in Requirements Management, System Architecture, Systems Integration, and/or Verification and Validation.
- Education: Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's degree) in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
- Knowledge:
- Good understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
- Familiarity with complex systems (e.g., military systems) or related defence technologies is desirable.
- Familiarity of System Engineering in an ASDEFCON context is desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g., DOORS, Model Based Systems Engineering tools). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Ability to clearly convey technical information in both written and verbal forms.
- Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to preferably NV1 level or have the ability to gain one.
