We’re seeking a motivated Technical Writer/Illustrator who’s passionate about clear communication, technical accuracy, and visual storytelling.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop operator, maintenance, and user manuals for complex software and hardware systems
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and developers to document and validate technical content
  • Contribute to S1000D publication development and maintain illustration standards
  • Contribute to Framemaker publication development and maintain illustration standards
  • Create and update high-quality technical illustrations and graphics
  • Review peer documentation and support the Technical Writer Team Lead across defence projects
  • Assist in preparing Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) documentation and visual assets
  • Help shape and maintain document standards, tools, and quality assurance processes.

About you

Experience & Skills:

  • Experience in technical writing within defence, engineering, or related fields
  • Skilled in plain English writing, Adobe FrameMaker, and Defence document standards
  • Strong illustration capabilities using tools such as CorelDRAW, Adobe Photoshop, or similar
  • Experience with technical publications for software/hardware systems
  • Able to analyse engineering data and transform it into user-friendly documentation
  • Comfortable working independently and in cross-functional teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience with S1000D and military documentation standards
  • Use of 3D modelling software to create technical visual content
  • Exposure to software development, ILS, or configuration management
  • Familiarity with online help, web-based publishing, and quality systems

  • Ability to undertake tasks with minimal supervision whilst maintaining communication with own Supervisor.
  • Ability to manage self in terms of time and process, exercises initiative, completes tasks in a competent and timely manner and demonstrates professional ethics.
  • Ability to adapt to new tasks, technologies, processes and procedures.


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
