We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer Team Lead to guide and develop a high-performing team supporting complex naval combat systems projects.

Key responsibilities:

As a key member of our technical documentation team, you will:

  • Lead and mentor a skilled team of Technical Writers across multiple projects
  • Drive S1000D capability development and technical documentation standards
  • Plan and allocate resources, ensuring efficient and quality outputs
  • Provide technical oversight of operator and maintainer manuals for Defence systems
  • Engage directly with Project Managers, Project Controllers and other ILS Teams to align efforts with delivery milestones.
  • Contribute to future capability growth through tender support, external networks, and best practices.

About you

You are a detail-oriented professional with a strong foundation in Technical Writing and a passion for supporting complex defence systems. You thrive in structured environments and enjoy collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

Experience & Skills:

  • Over 8 years of Technical Writing experience in Defence, engineering, or tech industries
  • Strong leadership skills with experience guiding teams or projects
  • Expertise in S1000D, technical manual development, and software/hardware documentation
  • Proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker, and related tools
  • Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and effectively
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain an NV1 Security Clearance

Desirable:

  • Experience with online help systems, web-based publishing, and Configuration Management
  • Familiarity with Defence standards and military documentation practices

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
