Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Roly Walker, visits the Fareham campus
We were honoured to welcome the Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Roly Walker, to our Fareham campus. The visit underscored the strong and enduring partnership we have with the British Army and our shared commitment to national defence, contributing to the strength and resilience of the United Kingdom.
During the visit, General Walker toured our state-of-the-art Giraffe 1X radar production facilities and gained first-hand insight into a range of advanced systems and programmes supporting UK and allied forces. We also delivered a comprehensive capability showcase, demonstrating our breadth of expertise across modern defence solutions. This included drone and autonomy technologies, which are playing an increasingly critical role in enhancing operational awareness and battlefield effectiveness. Saab teams also presented the NLAW anti-tank weapon system and the renowned Carl-Gustaf multi-role weapon, both of which have proven their value in supporting infantry forces in complex operational environments.

In addition, the Chief of the General Staff was introduced to our integrated Training & Simulation solutions, designed to improve readiness and performance across all levels of military operations. The Barracuda camouflage system was also on display, highlighting an innovative approach to survivability through advanced signature management.
A particularly significant part of the visit was General Walker’s engagement with colleagues who are veterans and reservists. This provided an opportunity to recognise their continued contribution to UK defence, both within industry and through their direct service. We take pride in fostering a workforce that includes individuals with invaluable military experience, reinforcing our understanding of the evolving needs of the Armed Forces.

We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with the British Army and the wider defence community, ensuring the UK Armed Forces remain equipped with cutting-edge, mission-ready capabilities for the challenges of today and tomorrow.
