Semper Fidelis: Saab Honors the U.S. Marine Corps' 250 Years of Service
As the U.S. Marine Corps approaches 250 years of service, Saab, Inc. celebrates its partnership with America's expeditionary force.
What began on November 10, 1775 in a Philadelphia tavern with a call for "a few good men,” has evolved into one of the world's most lethal and respected fighting forces.
From the shores of Tripoli to today's complex battlefields, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) have continued to embody the spirit of "Semper Fidelis" – Always Faithful. Saab has been honored to support that mission, delivering combat-proven weapons systems and cutting-edge training solutions to support the USMC as they take on the world's toughest challenges.
Training the Next Generation of Marine Corps’ Warfighters
In 2021, the USMC selected Saab to deliver the Marine Corps Tactical Instrumentation System (MCTIS), a next-generation live training platform that represents an evolutionary leap in how Marines prepare for combat.
MCTIS leverages Saab's proven training technology and deep bench of expertise to meet the unique and demanding requirements of Marine Corps operations. With more than 80% of Saab’s MCTIS staff comprised of United States veterans, the program is designed by those who know the dangers that Marines face and are proud to play a part in preparing the next generation.
“For almost a quarter of a century, I served in the United States Marine Corps. During this time, I was either in the infantry community or dealing with training and educating our future warfighters. Within my career, I have never seen a system that can give such high-fidelity feedback on what we need to work on through our tactics, techniques and procedures. The data analytics give commanders the feedback they need to better prepare their units for the mission.” said Tony Viggiani, U.S. Marine Corps Gunner (CWO-4 RET) and Saab Business Development Manager.
The system's impact has been demonstrated at exercises like the Marine Air-Ground Task Force Warfighting Exercise (MWX), the premier all-domain warfighting training exercise for the U.S. Marine Corps. In August 2025, Saab supported the largest MWX to date, outfitting 5,000 Marines and 300 vehicles across two different locations in Twentynine Palms and Bridgeport, California.
Trusted Combat Systems Supporting Marine Operations
Marines rely on Saab weapon systems in the field, including the AT4 and Carl-Gustaf. These lightweight, multi-role platforms provide Marines with precision capabilities across diverse combat scenarios, from engaging hardened targets to supporting close combat operations in austere environments.
“I spent 22 years in the United States Marine Corps. Now I work at Saab, but I still work for the gunfighter. It’s all about taking care of people. It’s about bringing our guys home,” said JC Knight, U.S. Marine Corps Gunner (CWO-3 RET) and Saab Business Development Manager.
Saab also supports Marine Corps modernization by supplying key components for the Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR). The G/ATOR provides the U.S. Marine Corps with capabilities for air surveillance, air defense and ground weapon locating missions in one single ground-based radar solution.
Strengthening the Defense Industrial Base
Saab's commitment to the Marine Corps and all U.S. Armed Forces is reflected in its efforts to expand and strengthen America's defense manufacturing capabilities.
The company's planned advanced munitions facility in Grayling, Michigan, will support domestic production of shoulder-fired weapon systems and reduce supply chain vulnerabilities. This investment builds on Saab's broader U.S. expansion, which now includes ten facilities nationwide supporting the U.S. Armed Forces and its allies.
Looking Ahead
For nearly 250 years, Marines have answered the nation's call. Saab is proud to stand with them, providing the tools, training and technology that prepare Marines to fight and win today’s complex battles.
