The architect of tomorrow’s solutions

4 min read

An exciting chance to try something different – that was the reason behind the move to Germany. The city of Augsburg not only offered hiking in nature or beautiful sightseeing but the challenge of learning an entirely new language. Today, Hampus Tufvesson works as a Software Architect at Saab, where he combines his interest in travelling with his other big passion in life – technology.

Ambitions higher than the Alps

Hampus has been a part of Saab since 2013. After graduating from The Institute of Technology in Linköping, he has worked as a Software Developer, System Engineer and Team Leader – both in Sweden and abroad.

“Sometimes, it’s easier for others to see your true potential.”

His openness to try new career paths has led him to explore many different areas in technology in other parts of the world.

"I like to be spontaneous and grab the opportunities life gives you. In my case I’ve had many inspiring people around me who has opened new doors and proposed different directions for me to go, like the opportunity to work in Germany, for example. Sometimes it’s easier for others to see your true potential and encourage you to try something new."

Despite not knowing a word in German, Hampus decided to give it a go. After four years in his new hometown, he had not only gained valuable work-life experience – he had also taken his language skills to a whole new level.

"The thing about learning a new language is that it gives you the chance to explore the culture even further. You can integrate with people in a better way, and you are not limited to the tourist trail."

Designing a safer future

What led him to Saab in the first place was the exciting range of advanced products and the unique expertise and knowledge of the employees. An inspiring environment he couldn’t wait to join.

“It’s amazing to be part of a company with technology at its heart and work with people who share my passion.”

"I actually applied for two different roles at Saab after I graduated from Linköping University. I thought it sounded fascinating to be part of a company with technology at its heart and work with people who shared my passion."

In his role at Saab, Hampus’ focus is on the architectural design of the products – a job that requires thoroughness, planning and great problem-solving skills.

“It’s inspiring to see what we can achieve together as a team.”

For example, he has taken part in a project involving an anti-ship missile that addresses the future defence needs of naval, land, and air forces across the world.

"I love to see a project develop from the starting point to the final result. It’s inspiring to see what we can achieve together as a team and that the job we do results in products that make a difference."

Teamwork makes the dream work

The collaborative and dynamic culture was also a contributing factor in choosing Saab as an employer. In Hampus job, teamwork is key and working together with humble and helpful colleagues makes the collaborations a lot easier and more enjoyable.

"I always feel free to ask about anything. It’s an open and helpful environment, and everyone is willing to help out when needed."

The many development opportunities Saab offers is also something Hampus appreciate about working at the company. In an exciting tech world with varied projects, there is always room to grow and learn. But after all, it’s the people that keep him motivated to get to work in the morning.

"If it’s something that keeps me motivated, it’s the inspiring colleagues I work with every day. There’s always a positive atmosphere which makes working here a fun part of life."
