SwAF Gripens Have a Busy Year Ahead
Throughout the year 2021, the Swedish Air Force Gripen pilots have several exercises to participate in. A report on Forsvarsmakten.se talks about some of these upcoming joint exercises.
Following annual tradition, the exercises planned for all year round involves international partners and countries like Finland, Norway, the UK, and the US, among others. The activities will spread out across all ground, air and naval domains which will help strengthen the capabilities of all participating nations.
"We should be able to give and receive support, so these exercises are important. Everything is within the framework of the Armed Forces' mission and the agreements and declarations of intent concluded at political level," says Brigadier General Mats Ström, The Swedish Armed Forces Communications Director.
The Swedish Gripen and the Finnish Air Forces' F-18 Hornets have participated in multiple joint exercises since 2016. This spring, the two air forces look forward to strengthening their interoperability even more during the Northern Forest exercise in northern Finland. The SwAF Gripens also have the multinational ACE flight exercise lined up which will take place in the Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian airspace.
"Through our collaborations, we show that we are credible and relevant in terms of working with our partners, and performing our tasks. To be able to act quickly and decisively together with other countries in a sharp situation means we are already in a state of readiness," says Brigadier General Mats Ström.
