Saab publishes Climate Transition Plan

As the next step on Saab’s sustainability journey, Saab has now published 
a climate transition plan. A robust climate strategy promotes long-term business resilience, attracts investors, and meets consumer demand for sustainable practices, thereby securing a competitive advantage.

The plan sets out the foundation for Saab’s work, detailing ambition and execution within the field. The plan describes decarbonisation strategies, financing the transition, risk & opportunities, collaboration and governance.

 “Our goal is to be a sustainability leader in our industry. Here we have made meaningful progress, and we continue to transition to solutions and production methods with lower climate impact including expanding the use of sustainable aviation fuels,” says CEO Micael Johansson. 

Saab is committed to delivering value for our stakeholders whilst driving a green and social transition. This requires product innovation, resource efficiency and new technologies to reduce Saab's climate impact, alongside our growth journey and adapting to the future.

Committing to setting SBT and UN’s Race to Zero after performing risk & opportunity assessment (TCFD).

2022

Science-based Near-Term targets to 2030 approved by the SBTi.

Product design

Gripen designed to be upgradable, modular, repairable and able to fly with biofuel. Utilise product & process innovation to reduce climate impact.

Energy Efficiency

Saab Solna office received the highest BREEAM rating. Reducing energy consumption through improved technologies and practices across various sectors, such as buildings, transportation, and industry.

Renewable Energy and Electrification

Gamleby biogas system in production. 67% of energy use comes from renewable sources. Shifting from burning fossil fuels (oil, natural gas etc.) to using renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, and renewable district heating.

Transitioning to biofuels

Saab Special Mission & Corporate Flight refuelling on biofuel. 
Saab’s shipyard in Karlskrona transitioned to HVO100. Shifting to sustainable aviation fuels, HVO100 etc. for flight operations, transportation of goods and potentially more areas.

Supplier Engagement

Saab has engaged 27% of suppliers to set science-based targets (2025). Prime transport partner transitioned to HVO100. Building trust by collaborating with stakeholders is vital for achieving Saab’s target. For example, customers, suppliers and partners.
