Want to influence the bigger picture? At Saab, you can realise amazing innovations that keep people and societies safe. Together, we can truly make an impact – and your part matters.

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic thinking Director Portfolio Management to join our dynamic team.

Your role

In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our business by guiding and steering R&D funding across a key business area. You will develop and manage a comprehensive portfolio strategy aligned with overall business objectives, ensuring optimal allocation of R&D resources. This includes conducting thorough financial analysis of potential projects, assessing their risk profiles and projected ROI, and recommending funding allocations based on data-driven insights.

You will also assure the development and execution of product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with market needs, technological advancements, and business goals. And this involves forecasting the financial performance of products throughout their lifecycle, identifying potential revenue streams and cost optimization opportunities.

Other main tasks:

  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and customer requirements to identify new product and technology opportunities. This analysis should include assessing the financial viability of new ventures and their potential impact on the overall portfolio.
  • Evaluate the financial viability and potential return on investment for R&D projects, making data-driven recommendations for funding allocation. This requires strong financial modeling skills, the ability to conduct sensitivity analyses, and a deep understanding of key financial metrics such as NPV, IRR, and payback period.
  • Monitor and track the performance of R&D projects, identifying risks and opportunities, and implementing corrective actions as needed. This involves analyzing financial reports, identifying variances from budget, and recommending adjustments to ensure projects remain on track financially.
  • Prepare comprehensive decision materials for senior management, focusing on investments in R&D and delivery capacity. This includes conducting thorough research, analyzing financial data, developing clear and concise presentations, and articulating the strategic rationale behind investment recommendations.
  • Analyze the impact of proposed investments on existing delivery capacity and recommend adjustments to resource allocation or infrastructure as needed. This requires a deep understanding of the company's operational capabilities and the ability to forecast future resource requirements.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including Business Units, finance department, R&D teams, product development, marketing, and sales, to ensure seamless execution of the portfolio strategy. Effectively communicate portfolio related financial insights and recommendations to diverse audiences, tailoring your approach to ensure understanding and buy-in.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance portfolio management processes and optimize product efficiency and profitability. This may involve recommending and implementing new ways of working methodologies, streamlining reporting processes, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction.

Your profile

For this role, we see it as meritorious if you have experience in the defence industry and understanding of operational scenarios.

In addition to experience from the defense industry, we would like to see the following in the application:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in portfolio management, preferably within a technology-driven industry.
  • Strong understanding of product development lifecycles and R&D funding processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, including financial modeling, forecasting, valuation, and risk assessment.
  • Proven ability to make data-driven recommendations for investment decisions, based on a thorough understanding of financial metrics and their implications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
