Job Description:

Saab in East Syracuse, NY is currently seeking a self-motivated and experienced Lead Systems Engineer capable of leading large technical teams and entire programs. Contribute to the program planning by providing cost estimates, schedule estimates and task assignments. Apply engineering knowledge and skills to solve complex problems, perform functional analysis, systems integration and provide innovative solutions for Next Generation Surface Surveillance Systems. These systems include Multilateration technologies, ADS-B, Surface Movement Radars, and Runway Status Lights to support safety and efficiency, and Digital Tower technology to support remote operations for airline, airport and air traffic control.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work on leading-edge technologies that directly support the busiest airports in the U.S. As a Lead/ Senior Staff Systems Engineer on the team, you will lead, coach and provide technical oversight to less seasoned engineers, and work with a diverse group of internal and external team members, spanning numerous disciplines and all experience levels.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Decompose system level requirements and perform functional analysis

  • Estimate and direct efforts for large groups/tasks

  • Effectively delegating tasks to team members

  • Providing mentoring and broad technical guidance/coaching (including lessons learned), viewed as an expert in field

  • Identify and evaluate risks and develop mitigation strategies

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively (written and verbal)

  • Improve technical performance and efficiency utilizing tools and technology

  • Present results/content to customers (internal or external) and/or others

  • Produce and review professional, high-quality documentation

  • Apply innovative and practical problem solving techniques

  • Provide cost-effectively inputs for planning, scheduling and estimating work

  • Generating system architecture design, while balancing hardware and software implementations

  • Innovating original analysis techniques

  • Directing and providing insight across multiple customers and projects, internal and external

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or applicable scientific field is required.

  • 15+ years of applicable, professional experience, preferably in the domain of Air Traffic Management.

  • Experience in all program phases from concept development through final acceptance is required. This will often include on-site support for surveys, installation, configuration, integration, optimization and acceptance testing.

  • Experience with systems integration and test techniques are required.

  • Experience with Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point are required.

  • Experience with FAA or other US government customers is highly desirable.

  • Experience with MATLAB, and 2D/3D CAD (Autodesk Fusion, Solidworks, etc) is desirable.

  • A working knowledge of air traffic control, airline ramp control or airport surveillance is desirable.

  • Understanding of software languages, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings or other discipline specific artifacts.

  • Ability to perform complex data analysis.

  • Ability to perform trade studies.
