Logistics Engineering Team Lead

About the role

The Logistic Engineering Team Lead is responsible for maintaining and growing Logistic Engineering (LE) capability within the SDG ILS Team, supporting SDG programs, Saab company objectives, and delivery of complex Defence projects.

This is a leadership-focused role combining people management, technical oversight, and project delivery.

As a Logistic Engineering Team Lead, you will lead a team of Logistic Engineers, align capability with business demand, and ensure high-quality ILS outcomes across multiple programs.

As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:

Leadership & Capability Development

  • Provide strong, inclusive leadership to the Logistic Engineering team.
  • Drive performance management, coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Lead recruitment and workforce planning to scale capability in line with project needs.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.

Project & Delivery Management

  • Undertake Control Account and Work Package Management, including planning, risk and issue management, and reporting on cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Manage project scope, coordinate resources, and allocate tasks effectively.
  • Estimate, plan, and support execution of Logistic Engineering activities across projects.
  • Prepare and review ILS inputs to tenders and project deliverables.

Technical & Process Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, practices, and work instructions.
  • Ensure effective integration of ILS with Systems Engineering, Configuration Management, and other disciplines.
  • Align with other ILS Team Leads on technical strategy, standards, and resource planning.
  • Apply Logistic Support Analysis (LSA), RAM analysis, and relevant tools and standards.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the business and with external stakeholders.
  • Provide sound commercial and technical input within Defence and Government contracting frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, company policies, WHS requirements, and the Quality Management System.
  • Promote fairness, respect, open communication, and ethical decision-making at all times.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to set direction, motivate teams, and deliver high-performance outcomes.
  • Experience in the Defence industry, including support of complex systems and associated standards.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering, Configuration Management, and integration of ILS disciplines.
  • Sound stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to build trusted relationships.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen and understanding of Defence and Government contracting structures.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring engineers and technical professionals.
  • Strong understanding of Logistic Support Analysis and the inter-relationships between ILS elements.
  • Experience applying relevant military and commercial logistics standards.
  • Experience using LSA and RAM analysis tools.

Qualification:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or significant relevant industry experience.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
