Project Manager – Defence Industry

The opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.

The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.

The role

Working with and for experienced project managers in a complex and challenging stakeholder environment the DDG Project Manager will perform a variety of project management activities. These include project reporting, control account manager (CAM) duties or assisting CAMs, issue resolution, producing and reviewing PM related CDRLs, assisting with contract management, helping with bid artefacts, and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to support project objectives.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Produce PM reporting artefacts (monthly and ad hoc reporting)
  • Help to drive risk and opportunity assessments and actions associated with risk and opportunity management
  • Interface with functional areas for DDG PM related activities
  • Provide early warning of any emerging risks or developments that could have an adverse impact on execution
  • Review and analyse OEM CDRL deliverables
  • Manage ad hoc task management supporting Program leadership
  • Act to support Senior PMs and act as a succession plan for Senior PMs
  • Lead, negotiate and influence individuals across the CSI-IPT
  • Develop and update of project level plans and other deliverables
  • Provide input to project major system reviews.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • At least 5 years project management, preferably in defence
  • Understanding of planning, scheduling and earned value
  • Managing and influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Excelling in collaborative, team-based environments
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving to develop creative and innovative solutions
  • A degree in science, engineering or business (desirable)
  • Post graduate qualification in Project Management (desirable).

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold, or have the ability to obtain, an Australian defence security clearance to NV1. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
