About the role
The Senior Configuration Management Officer plays a key role in shaping and embedding Configuration Management (CM) capability across the Hardware Group and broader SDG business.
Reporting to the Hardware Product Manager, this role supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of CM frameworks, tools, and governance in support of AusCMS product development and combat system projects.
This position is suited to an experienced CM professional who can operate with autonomy, influence engineering and project teams, and champion robust CM practices across complex, software-intensive Defence systems

As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:
CM Framework & Governance
- Support the Hardware Product Manager in developing and implementing CM frameworks across the Hardware Group and other areas as required.
- Champion CM practices including Hardware CM planning, baseline definition and establishment, deviations, and change management.
- Author, maintain, and improve CM plans, processes, procedures, and workflows.
- Provide a Configuration Management audit service across the SDG business.
Baseline, Change & Audit Management
- Support Project Managers and Engineering Managers/Team Leads in defining, establishing, and maintaining task and project baselines.
- Facilitate Engineering Review Boards (ERB) and Configuration Control Boards (CCB), managing actions and outcomes.
- Participate in functional and physical configuration audits and associated reviews.
- Prepare and issue Configuration Status Accounting Reports (CSARs).
- Coordinate and manage deviations (variance) data, documentation, and technical media.
Systems, Tools & Data Management
- Support PMs with task and project information setup within IFS Applications.
- Support the implementation and adoption of IFS Applications across SDG and provide CM and IFS “Help Desk” support.
- Coordinate engineering data, documentation, and technical media across projects and products.
- Create and maintain system and product breakdown structures for CMS products and combat system projects.
- Coordinate distribution of deliverables to internal and external stakeholders, including customers.
Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance
- Liaise with Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Hardware Engineers, and external stakeholders.
- Promote a culture of respect, fairness, and open communication.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, company policies, WHS requirements, and the Quality Management System.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ Defence industry experience in a project-based or product engineering environment.
- Proven ability to self-manage CM workload and priorities with minimal supervision.
- Strong internal customer engagement and stakeholder management capability.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience using Configuration Management tools and/or Engineering Data Management systems.
- Industry-recognised Configuration Management training or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable
- Experience managing complex, software-intensive systems across the full systems engineering lifecycle.
- Experience creating CM process documentation and workflows.
- Experience with IFS Applications (Enterprise Solutions).
- Experience with PLM tools, PLM strategies, and implementation.
- Experience training users in CM tools and engineering data systems.
- Tertiary qualification in a related discipline.
Qualification:
- Industry-recognised Configuration Management training or equivalent professional experience (Essential)
- Tertiary qualification in a related discipline (Desirable)

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
