The role
As part of our Naval Combat Systems group, the Senior Integration Engineer role contributes to the development and integration of the Saab 9LV Combat Management System, a naval command and control system that integrates sensors, weapons, and data to provide situational awareness and decision support for maritime operations. As a technical leader or subject matter expert in a software system integration team in a large software development organization, the role is responsible for leading activities relating to the integration and testing of software that is mission essential and safety critical.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Develop a broad understanding of the operational use of the associated systems under development.
- Lead the development and maintenance of software integration environments, including integration and installation of software and equipment into test reference sites and various Linux-based environments.
- Lead efforts to troubleshoot system issues related to Linux servers, networking infrastructure, VMs and containers in distributed environments.
- Documentation of integration processes, system configurations and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborate with DevOps, IT and software development teams to improve CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure.
- Lead the preparation of test documentation, Integration Testing and System Testing. Support Test Readiness Review.
- Maintain assigned Jira tasks by keeping ticket status, details, effort log and time estimates accurate and regularly updated. Log defects with sufficient detail for effective resolution.
- Travel interstate to assist with system deployments, troubleshooting and collaboration with remote teams.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your skills and experience will include:
Essential
- Experienced in the integration of software components in near real time software intensive systems.
- Experienced in the integration of COTS/MOTS components.
- Knowledge and experience across various software languages (Ada, Java, C++).
- Knowledge and experience across various software architectures.
- Experienced with configuration, management and troubleshooting of IP networks to enable secure and efficient data flow between integrated systems.
- Proficient with the implementation, deployment, management and configuration of containerised applications using Docker.
- Expert in the deployment, management and troubleshooting of Linux-based virtual machines and network environments.
- Skilled with the development and maintenance of automation scripts using Bash, Python and Ansible.
- Proficient in the application of configuration management principles and the use of Git to ensure controlled and traceable development of software products.
Desirable
- Familiarity with complex software-intensive systems (e.g., military systems) or related defence technologies is desirable.
- Experienced with tools and technologies including DDS, IBM DOORS, and the Atlassian tool suite.
- Experienced with any of the following tools/technologies – Docker, Jenkins, DDS, Git and Automated Test Frameworks.
As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
