Do you want to work on a dynamic team of dedicated, enthusiastic employees with a reputation for integrity, quality, excellence, and teamwork?  Then this is the job for you. Saab currently has a need for Database Engineer in our East Syracuse, NY office.

You will be working alongside our System Engineers, other Software Engineers, and Test Engineers as they work toward improving applications that are used by our customers.

We are looking for a Database Engineer with an interest in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from design through deployment and maintenance.

Your focus would be managing the database design, implementation, and migration of the database, along with helping to investigate issues with our production systems.  The ideal candidate would also be able to participate in software creation and design.

Compensation Range: $85,000-$106,200

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required Skills:

  • Strong Relational database experience with PostgreSQL.

  • Strong Database setup, design, and optimization skills, including table partitioning, index management and memory settings.

  • Strong SQL and Query optimization skills.

  • Strong LINUX environment skills including command line and scripting tools.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Java programming skills.

  • Object Oriented Analysis and Design Skills.

  • Experience with Integrated Development Environments (e.g, Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to work in a dynamic team environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with database warehouse setup, ETL and reporting environments.

  • Experience with Flyway database versioning tool, or related.

  • Experience with automated build systems (e.g. Gradle, Jenkins, Subversion and Git).

  • Experience with unit test frameworks (e.g. Junit).

  • Experience with software Design Patterns.

  • Experience using UML.

  • Aviation and Defense systems background/domain interest.

Recommended Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in computer science, software engineering or related discipline.

  • 4+ years of related experience required.

As a condition of employment, candidates may be required to participate in a background investigation and/or successfully demonstrate eligibility to receive applicable Government security clearance(s).
