The role
As part of our Defence Delivery group, the Software Engineer will contribute to the development of the Saab 9LV Combat Management System, a naval command and control system that integrates sensors, weapons, and data to provide situational awareness and decision support for maritime operations. This role works within an agile development team under the guidance of senior engineers, applying modern software testing techniques to verify the operation of this large, complex, mission‑essential, and safety‑critical software system.
Further, the successful candidate will:
- Develop test plans, test cases, and test automations to support project deliverables and internal reviews.
- Support the design and development of the test automation framework.
- Maintain test environments and builds under test.
- Provide test support to Software Development and Software Integration Teams.
- Participate in the execution of major test events.
- Contribute to the production and review of test documentation and other software test artefacts.
- Analyse test failures and raise defect reports.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your education, skills and experience will include:
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in software engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Developing software test cases.
- Automating software test cases.
- Identifying, documenting, and reporting software defects.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Java, Python, and/or C++.
- Experience using test automation tools and frameworks, such as Robot Framework.
Desirable
- Experience working with CI/CD/CT pipelines and methodologies.
- Experience with document management tools, such as IBM DOORS.
- Experience with test management tools, such as Zephyr or HP ALM.
- Experience with:
- Technologies and tools including Docker, Jenkins, DDS, Git, Linux, or OpenCV.
- Software testing processes, practices, planning, and test cycles.
- Working knowledge of a formal testing certification or standard, such as ISTQB.
As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
