We are seeking a Sourcing Engineer for our site in Tampere!
Your role
As a Sourcing Engineer, you will play a key role in securing the supply of technically demanding electronic components and modules used in advanced electronic warfare systems. In this role, you will work closely with engineering teams and global suppliers to ensure access to cutting-edge technologies in a fast-evolving and strategically important environment.
You will be responsible for sourcing within advanced electronics categories. Previous experience in the relevant categories is beneficial; however, we also welcome sourcing professionals with experience in other complex technical categories and an interest in developing their expertise further.
As part of the Sourcing and Production team, you will manage relationships with current and potential suppliers and work closely with stakeholders across engineering, projects, production, quality and supply chain. Your work will help ensure an efficient, resilient and uninterrupted supply chain that meets project and production needs.
The role includes occasional domestic and international travel to supplier sites, Saab locations and industry events, typically accounting for approximately 10-20% of working time.
The role operates in a challenging and complex environment, where Saab continuously pushes the boundaries of what is technically possible. Success in this role requires strong communication and planning skills, a commercial and analytical mindset, and a proactive approach to supplier management.
Key Responsibilities
- Take commercial responsibility for assigned sourcing categories supporting projects and production throughout the product lifecycle.
- Continuously assess the competitiveness, capability, capacity and risk profile of the supplier portfolio.
- Develop and maintain long-term supplier relationships, in close co-operation with internal stakeholders.
- Lead sourcing activities, including RFQs, quotation evaluation, commercial negotiations and supplier agreement management.
- Monitor market trends, component availability, lead times, pricing and obsolescence risks within the assigned categories.
- Identify and drive opportunities for cost efficiency, supplier development and supply-chain resilience.
- Ensure compliance with Saab’s sourcing strategy, policies, procedures and applicable requirements.
Your profile
To thrive in this role, you are commercially minded, structured and customer-oriented. You communicate confidently with different stakeholders and are comfortable working independently while contributing actively to a cross-functional team.
You have an analytical approach and the ability to manage several priorities in a fast-paced and technically demanding environment. You are proactive in engaging with suppliers and able to take initiative when identifying supply-chain risks, commercial opportunities or improvement needs.
Required skills
- University degree in Engineering, Economics, Supply Chain Management or a related field; alternatively, equivalent relevant work experience
- Experience in strategic sourcing, procurement or supplier management
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Excellent written and spoken Finnish and English
- Experience in analysing sourcing, supplier or commercial data using Excel or similar tools
We also appreciate
- Experience of sourcing technically demanding electronic components, modules or related products, such as FPGAs, RF components, RF modules or GNSS/INS modules
- Understanding of the electronics-component market, including availability challenges, long lead times, lifecycle management and obsolescence
- Experience of working with ERP systems, for example IFS
- Experience in utilizing AI-powered tools to improve efficiency, data analysis or sourcing processes
- Experience in the electronics, high-technology, aerospace or defence industry
- Technical understanding of electronics, RF technologies or embedded systems
We do not expect you to meet every preferred qualification listed above. If this role sounds like a good fit for you, we encourage you to apply!
