Sensors and Services Unit
São Bernardo do Campo (SP)
At the São Bernardo do Campo site, there is a maintenance laboratory for high-complexity electronic equipment, where maintenance of the electronic warfare systems and the AESA radar of the Brazilian Gripen will be carried out. The unit also provides maintenance services for weather radars in the civil sector and for sensors and electronic warfare equipment of military aircraft in general.
This is the only advanced radar and electronic warfare systems maintenance laboratory for the Gripen installed outside Europe. The installation began in 2021 and represents a strong commitment to the support capability of the Gripen Programme throughout the aircraft’s lifecycle in the Brazilian Air Force, by offering a cost-effective maintenance solution that ensures a high level of availability for its modern sensors.
The environment is carefully controlled to prevent damage from contamination and electrostatic discharge. A highly qualified team and state-of-the-art automated test benches ensure the maintenance of radars and electronic warfare systems on military platforms, whether on aircraft or other equipment.
Since 2023, Saab Brazil’s sensors laboratory has started its capability development to perform maintenance on the IDAS electronic warfare system, developed by Saab South Africa and installed on helicopters operated by the Brazilian Army, Brazilian Navy, and Brazilian Air Force.
In the civil sector, Saab provides maintenance and repair services for weather radars to ensure that these devices remain fully operational. This is essential for public safety, as these radars collect data on rain, wind, and other natural phenomena. Saab Brazil currently provides services to the following clients: Civil Defence of Santa Catarina, APAC – Pernambuco State Agency for Water and Climate, and the Hydraulic Technology Center Foundation (FCTH).
