Always combat ready

Using the latest available technology, Gripen C-series is capable of performing an extensive range of air-to-air, air-to-surface and reconnaissance missions employing the latest weapons. Gripen C-series is designed to meet the demands of existing and future threats, while simultaneously meeting strict requirements for flight safety, reliability, training efficiency and low operating costs.

Any mission. Anywhere.

Gripen C-series is the most reliable swing-role combat aircraft available in the world today. Over 150 million people in five countries on three continents rely on Gripen C-series to protect their sovereign air space and ensuring their independence. With successful participation in NATO-led as well as numerous exercises and air policing assignments across the world, Gripen C-series is ready for any mission. Anywhere.

As well as protecting the interests of the user’s nation, Gripen C-series is ready to participate in joint missions around the world. Originally designed to operate in the harsh arctic conditions of northern Sweden, Gripen C-series has been proven to operate in a complete range of extreme climates – from tropical zones such as South-East Asia to the deserts of Africa.

Gripen C-series doesn’t need complex base facilities or specialized support equipment. It takes an unbeatable 10 minutes for one technician and five conscript mechanics to refuel, re-arm and turnaround the aircraft for an air-to-air mission. It can operate from a runway no wider than an ordinary road. The aircraft’s high sortie rate allows air forces to be quickly deployed, to maintain a high sortie rate and always be available and responsive to changing threats.

Capability and low life cycle cost make Gripen C-series unique on the market today. Gripen C-series operators can expect fewer failures, less maintenance down time, and the lowest cost of support compared to any other aircraft in its class. With Gripen C-series, costs are clear at the outset, and predictable throughout the lifecycle. Gripen C-series is versatile, reliable and cost-effective: protecting citizens, the defence budget and the wider finances of the entire nation.

With the longest Mean Time Between Failure, and shortest Mean Time To Repair of any fighter in operational service, Gripen C-series will provide excellent availability, in particular for periods of sustained high tempo operations. Making you ready for any mission. Anytime.

First to know. First to strike.

Gripen C-series is the master of situational awareness. The system’s ability to acquire, process, share and display tactical information – such as positional data of hostile and friendly units, missile engagement zones – enables the pilot to operate, interfere and interact effectively to taking control of the battle space.

Information superiority

Gripen C-series is equipped with sophisticated datalink technology, a long range multi-mode pulse doppler radar and an internal electronic warfare suite. All integrated in a system of systems with information transferred via sensor fusion through the smart intuitive pilot interface. Providing the pilot with superior situational awareness and decision support to make sure Gripen pilots are first to know and first to strike.

The balanced design of Gripen C-series results in a small visual, radar and IR signature denies the enemy early detection. The advanced aerodynamic layout utilizing a combined close-coupled canard – delta configuration and a triplex, digital Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System and the onboard electronic warfare system leads to a winning combat capability. That’s why with Gripen C-series you are first to know first to strike.

Superior today. Superior tomorrow.

Gripen C-series is the first fighter system with full integration and in-service operation of the unrivaled Meteor Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air missile with its massive no escape zone.

Weapon superiority

Gripen C-series is integrated with a great number of weapons and pods from both US and Europe for many types of missions, from long-and short-range and agile air-to-air missiles to heavy air to surface missiles and guided bombs for precision engagement with minimal collateral damage. The aircraft has an inherent precision-strike and stand-off capability and new weapons are easily and inexpensively integrated, making sure Gripen C-series always has a powerful weapon flexibility.

Aircraft superiority

Gripen C-series is designed with the future firmly in mind. A true blend of operational lethality, flexibility, maintainability and survivability neatly packaged in a state-of-the-art airframe of advanced carbon fiber composites. At the outset, it is compatible with your existing weapon systems: and it can integrate future technology as it is developed. It is designed for continuous upgrading to reflect new combat challenges.

We work in close co-operation with our customers around the world to continuously develop and improve the aircraft, instead of conducting major and costly mid-life upgrades. Using a short upgrade cycle to provide step-wise improvements ensures the fighter is always up to date and can be adapted rapidly to a changing world. Improvement costs are spread out over a long period, but you control the path, pace and progress of the upgrade programme. This ensures maximum air effectiveness over Gripen C-series' entire lifecycle: with operating costs that are predictable and manageable throughout. All this combined are keeping Gripen C-series superior today. And superior tomorrow.

Gripen operators

Sweden has been an operator since the late 90's and also have the largest fleet of Gripen C/D in operational service. Gripen C/D fighters are currently in-service with two NATO-members nations - Czech Republic and Hungary, as well as South Africa and Thailand. Also ETPS (Empire Test Pilots' School) offers Gripen to their students for the testing of advanced flight control systems, handling qualities and performance.
