Saab's Uncrewed Accelerator, formerly BlueBear, is a UK-based leader in the design, development, and rapid prototyping of autonomous and uncrewed systems. Based near Bedford and employing nearly 100 specialists, we bring more than two decades of expertise in uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), autonomy, command-and-control (C2) software, swarming technologies, and multi-domain uncrewed operations.
We design, build, and deliver uncrewed aerial systems for UK Government and prime contractor customers, supporting a wide range of mission requirements—from expendable target drones and persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms to advanced swarming intercept systems and sophisticated command-and-control software.

Saab acquired BlueBear Systems Research in August 2023, which now serves as Saab UK’s Uncrewed Accelerator, strengthening Saab’s global capabilities in next-generation autonomy, uncrewed systems, and command-and-control technologies while accelerating the development and deployment of innovative operational solutions for defence customers

UAV prototyping-as-a-service
We have a long history of UAV rapid prototyping, with multiple examples of taking a concept from white paper to flying prototype in 90 days. We are able to support rapid concepting, development, build, and flight of UAVs to meet customer requirements that currently don't exist on the market.
Prototype Industrialisation
We understand UAV prototypes aren't immediately ready for scaling, but Saab has experience with prototype revision to identify cheaper components, make supply chain more resilient for scaled production, and revise design assembly to increase production rates.
