From Service to Impact: Veterans Power Innovation at Saab
This National Hire a Veteran Day, learn how veterans drive impact at Saab and continue working to keep people and society safe.
Every year in the U.S., nearly 200,000 military personnel transition to civilian life, bringing their skills and expertise to the workplace. From exceptional leadership skills and discipline to a deep sense of purpose, veterans are well-positioned to help solve some of the world’s most complex defense industry challenges.
At Saab, Inc., veterans make up about 15% of the company's workforce. That figure climbs as high as 80% on projects like the Marine Corps Tactical Instrumentation System (MCTIS) – a program that directly supports combat readiness for the next generation of U.S. Marines. That’s no coincidence. Saab provides an ideal environment for veterans looking to continue their service through purpose-driven, high-impact work that strengthens national security.
At Saab, veterans continue to keep people and society safe.
Earl D. Plumlee is a retired Master Sergeant and Medal of Honor recipient, now serving as a Business Development Manager at Saab, Inc.
Master Sergeant Plumlee (U.S. Army Retired) was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions at Forward Operating Base Ghazni in Afghanistan when the complex was attacked. In addition to the Medal of Honor, Earl has received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart, among others.
Today, Earl helps build and support training programs for U.S. soldiers with Saab’s portfolio of munitions, such as the Carl Gustaf M4 and AT4 product families trusted by U.S. and allied forces around the world.
“Since I retired from service, it has been a privilege to continue working with the Army to provide our soldiers with the best systems available and help provide solutions to the evolving challenges of our warfighters,” said Plumlee.
Saab supports veterans in their career and their community.
Veterans bring exceptional qualities from their military careers, though many may face challenges when transitioning to civilian life. Across Saab’s ten U.S. facilities, stretching from California to Rhode Island, the company is dedicated to providing support and opportunities to veterans within Saab, and in the company’s local communities.
At Saab, veterans can continue to grow and pursue mission-driven projects, aided by Saab’s competitive benefits, including wellness benefits and tuition assistance.
“There is a natural alignment between the work we do at Saab and what many veterans seek post-service: continued purpose, mission-driven work, the chance to make a real impact for the next generation of warfighters,” said Monica G., who works in human resources. “At Saab, veterans are joining a team where their experience is not only respected but vital.”
