Training to fly Gripen

1 min read + Video

In part 3 of the training for Gripen video, test pilot Major Abdon undergoes hypoxia symptom recognition training where he learns to handle decreased oxygen pressure at altitude.

“It was very important for me to understand how my body would behave in case of lack of oxygen, and what actions I should take in a situation like this,” Major Abdon says. “I believe now I am prepared to start the course with the Swedish Air Force and do a great job,” he adds.

Major Abdon is a Brazilian Air Force Test Pilot in training for the Gripen Programme, and is undergoing a five month course in Såtenäs, Sweden. He feels honoured to be a part of the Brazilian Gripen programme and believes he will go back to Brazil and make valuable inputs as a Gripen pilot.

“All the instructors received me well, they gave a lot of valuable knowledge for me as a pilot and also as a representative of the Brazilian Air Force,” Major Abdon says.
