Delivering increased confidence in uncertain times
In uncertain times, the value of confident soldiers and powerful defence capability is more important than ever. Poland is one nation that has invested in training solutions from Saab. And now Saab has successfully completed the delivery of a comprehensive live training system to the Polish Armed Forces, marking a significant milestone in enhancing Poland's military readiness.
The training system, now fully operational across five sites, will significantly enhance Poland’s national training capacity and allow seamless integration and full interoperability with allied nations systems.
The contract signed in 2021, valued at approximately 1 billion SEK, was divided into two key parts: supply and support. The supply phase involved the delivery of state-of-the-art training systems and the establishment of support sites at five locations across Poland:
- 1 x Combat Training Centre (CTC) at Drawsko (KSSPW)
- 4 x Regimental Training Systems (LSS) at: Zagan, Orzysz, Wedrzyn and Deba
This phase equipped the Polish Armed Forces with the latest technology for realistic and immersive training scenarios. The solution includes capabilities such as Saab’s exercise control (EXCON) and communication systems, as well as the latest generation hi-fidelity simulators for soldiers, weapons and vehicles.
The second part of the contract, a 3.5-year support ensures the continued effectiveness of the system. This support includes integrated logistics and operational support to the Polish Armed Forces.
Instead of a projectile, our training solutions fire a laser. Our BT46 technology mimics the flight time and characteristics of real rounds to provide a true ballistic effect. If a soldier hasn’t considered factors like the target’s movement and the path of their projectile, then no hit is recorded. The result is extremely realistic live training that teaches soldiers the true abilities and limitations of their weapons.
The soldiers using our training solutions are equipped with a vest and helmet with laser receivers. These will receive the laser that are “fired” towards them and the soldier will get immediate feedback if it has been hit, wounded or killed.
At the heart of our live training solution is EXCON. This is the system that records every move down to individual level for after action review. Users have access to a wide range of objective data, which enables them to review activity and identify lessons to improve operational effectiveness.
Our scalable and modular training solutions can support training at every level, from basic individual tactical skills to Combined Arms Brigade collective training.
This new capability enables Battalion and Company-level exercises within the Polish Armed Forces, as well as multinational exercises with allied nations.
Joakim Alhbin, Head of Saab's business unit Training & Simulation, echoed this sentiment: "We are incredibly proud to have successfully delivered this comprehensive training solution to the Polish Armed Forces. This achievement reaffirms Saab's commitment to providing cutting-edge, deployable, and high-fidelity training solutions that empower our partners worldwide."
The successful completion of this contract strengthens the partnership between Saab and the Polish Armed Forces, ensuring Poland's continued readiness to meet the challenges of the modern security environment.
