Surface ships and boats

Saab’s surface vessels are made for a challenging environment giving them extraordinary capabilities in relation to stealth, speed, maneuverability and shock resistance.

Based on the prerequisites of the Baltic Sea, in operations world-wide

We have profound experience of developing highly advanced vessels and platforms for the maritime domain. Through evolutionary design the offer includes confident solutions giving capabilities to navies for surface combat, mine counter measure and patrol, as well as design and material technology such as superstructures and through life support. The aspired capabilities naturally varies depending on the primary mission and Saab has a broad offer from smaller boats with great speed and maneuverability to larger ships that in addition have superior stealth capabilities. The Baltic Sea is a central hub for northern Europe and the most important means of transportation for goods. Providing short distances between harbours, there are approximately 2,000 ships in the Baltic marine at any given moment. The shallow waters of the Baltic Sea with an average depth of 70 metres takes special skills and equipment to master. A mix of fresh and salt water and the many layers are other unique elements, and not to be forgotten - the Baltic Sea is mine infested waters. Over 60,000 undetonated mines makes the Baltic Sea one of the most mine infested waters in the world. The mines are remains from WWI and WWII. Saab’s surface vessels have been developed for these prerequisites, thus leading to ships and boats with tailored capabilities for a challenging environment in relation to stealth, speed, maneuverability and shock resistance. We have a long history of making surface ships and boats and our vessels are in service world-wide.
