Electromechanical Actuators (EMA)

Since the beginning of the century, Saab has been dedicated to the development of Electromechanical Actuation (EMA) products. Today, Saab offers flight-proven electromechanical actuation equipment for integration in all types of airborne control systems.

We can provide both linear and rotary electric actuators and associated control electronics adapted and optimized to your needs based on our modularized product platform.

Features

  • Compact envelope
  • High reliability
  • High efficiency
  • High power-to-weight ratio
  • Modularized design
  • Optimized thermal properties
  • Simplex or duplex
  • Typical solutions are based on Brushless Permanent Magnet motor design

Linear & Rotary EMA

Our linear and rotary electromechanical actuators have high precision with an inherent high power-to-weight-and-dimension ratio and are suitable for most airborne applications. They have a very robust design, making them well prepared for unprotected environments. They are also designed to be maintenance-free, meaning they are ”fit and forget”-equipment. Saab’s modular EMA product platform allows for configuration of power, size and interfaces optimized for your needs. A unique motor powers the electromechanical actuators, providing for a built-in redundancy if required.

Control Electronics

Saab motor control electronics are optimized for control and monitoring of electromechanical actuators including fault handling. Focused features are high reliability and high efficiency power electronics. The Saab build standard enables simplex/duplex design, compact dimensions and robustness which in combination with good thermal management allows for very flexible placement in all types of aircraft and in all types of environmental conditions.
